<div style="text-align: center;">
So hey, I should probably mention that I'm hopping off Blogspot over to Tumlbr cos I'm a massive sheep and can't make decisions of my own. Except I'm like a really slow sheep who takes five years to do something everyone else has done ages ago. Like there's this delay in comprehension that leaves me trailing off behind, waddling slowly and sweating profusely.</div>

I've been updating my portfolio and as such was wading through lots of old work. Riding this retrospective wave, I had another shot at Alenka and Leo from my ill-fated comic <i>Cities. </i>This is just a comparison of the line-art and finished render. I'm not so happy with Leo, he's lost something in the transition. Also gained a quiff at some point apparently...</div>

A few random character bits tonight, and the most complete line-up yet! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was really taking this as a chance to smooth out some of the designs I already had, as well as draw some of the characters I hadn't got round to doing more often.. There's also a good few here I haven't shown yet.. Oh intrigue!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Also, I'm currently referring to this project as <i>Glasshead</i>. This may change, it may not.. who knows?! I certainly don't...</div>

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Welp, I spent the majority of the easter weekend shut up in my room colouring. As such, I will have a couple of bits to show at some point soon, and also this now. This was mainly for colour and panel testing purposes, so don't expect anything in the way of context right now. Im gunning for the mysterious approach...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It was also an excuse to draw Skipjack. </div>MANYHEADEDMONSTERhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17634955711478527038noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726922527649892311.post-68534973426217986232011-11-14T01:52:00.004+00:002011-11-14T02:15:59.362+00:00Lumi Walkthrough 01 - IT STARTS...<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Now in an attempt to justify actually having a blog, I figured I should start uploading some stuff unique to here.. I thought, for whatever reason, that it may be interesting to see something of my totally impractical, stupid and convoluted process.</div><div style="text-align: center;">By chance, I started a new picture this weekend, so over the next.. however long it may take me to do this... I will try and upload some progress shots at KEY MOMENTS in my pathetic attempts to DO ART...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Oh yeah, I'm drawing Lumi from Josceline Fenton's webcomic <a href="http://hemlock.smackjeeves.com/">Hemlock</a>. I recently bought the first two print volumes from Josceline (who was very friendly, very nice..) at the MCM Expo, and then had to wait impatiently for the third one to be released about a week later..</div><div style="text-align: center;">Such a lovely series, so pretty! And Lumi is a doll! Hehehe..</div><div style="text-align: center;">(Disclaimer: This image will in no way do justice to Josceline's stuff. If you are reading this, Josceline, for that which I am about to do, I apologise profusely...)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisPuYz2zl-aK0cx7QxH_izGN4kGo1iOh_8cOzu8iwDnCeXjw7QaCnxCUxZPPWlnmIJghnKOtzWsbwau6e0C5Hp13xiOmlemPxBGRIW1MiVACxDeLEJk22GXMwKt0aAZLWSDGaA2wLM5_sb/s1600/Lumi+%2528abandoned+01%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisPuYz2zl-aK0cx7QxH_izGN4kGo1iOh_8cOzu8iwDnCeXjw7QaCnxCUxZPPWlnmIJghnKOtzWsbwau6e0C5Hp13xiOmlemPxBGRIW1MiVACxDeLEJk22GXMwKt0aAZLWSDGaA2wLM5_sb/s320/Lumi+%2528abandoned+01%2529.jpg" width="185" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">So I started doodling about, not really knowing what I wanted to do here, so it's all very rough. I was drawing digitally as I recently moved house (and also... to London...), and haven't yet brought my scanner up with me..</div><div style="text-align: center;">It's been interesting of late, whereas in the past I'd have drawn an image out by hand before scanning and inking it digitally, I've been forced to work more directly digitally. This was really unnatural to me at first, but I'm starting to get the hang of it..</div><div style="text-align: center;">Don't judge that based on these early images.. They're rough. Just.. just very rough...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Zzzc7D0c1GHQkeH4zURcNY_AuvWNuKNWyBwdyiYOPUTd_aSbwUpaukutuOH8xE1A1r0zMV0B9jIVy8A_Bp8BEEWWul32z7CxykzPsIFayYCbTiMPYPhw2MVIwQS5JS6XifNT1vrSTXHZ/s1600/Lumi+%2528Abandoned+02%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Zzzc7D0c1GHQkeH4zURcNY_AuvWNuKNWyBwdyiYOPUTd_aSbwUpaukutuOH8xE1A1r0zMV0B9jIVy8A_Bp8BEEWWul32z7CxykzPsIFayYCbTiMPYPhw2MVIwQS5JS6XifNT1vrSTXHZ/s320/Lumi+%2528Abandoned+02%2529.jpg" width="262" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Anyways, I expanded out from the initial doodle, again very rough, trying to come up with an idea for the image. I kind of settled on one before realising, this is just the worst framing.. This is awful!</div><div style="text-align: center;">Soooooo...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim9egW9s8j6jryuNIg4RBwIMod1BEyn3m-N2STC0RpRHz51GibK72oyA7-1GNDXFHHFk94wkP2EOSk2SxrMDEGlqI0fIfI-kXi_vs506ElMh7CdfbDinDcoKIYPR3e3g9Xjcy9R0B3zCLG/s1600/Lumi+%2528Small+Thumbs%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEim9egW9s8j6jryuNIg4RBwIMod1BEyn3m-N2STC0RpRHz51GibK72oyA7-1GNDXFHHFk94wkP2EOSk2SxrMDEGlqI0fIfI-kXi_vs506ElMh7CdfbDinDcoKIYPR3e3g9Xjcy9R0B3zCLG/s1600/Lumi+%2528Small+Thumbs%2529.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Thumbnails! (There were more than this)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I scrapped what I had (never be afraid to do this!!) and put a bit more thought into the composition of the image. Basically I lifted the original idea, but made it BETTER..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX9OyX6ZzZSCYGEL629fGhVAZTSj6FUk1S22Qj9YesGmzL-BueMmEzLNouhnDSl-EkRR40EqRj8FcPhVTPK8sHslx0yEGd7gQT6BVFFMvXM2u_RzkMfEhLcozhEd7ORggK15JJzPGvPxdY/s1600/Lumi+%2528Large+Thumb%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX9OyX6ZzZSCYGEL629fGhVAZTSj6FUk1S22Qj9YesGmzL-BueMmEzLNouhnDSl-EkRR40EqRj8FcPhVTPK8sHslx0yEGd7gQT6BVFFMvXM2u_RzkMfEhLcozhEd7ORggK15JJzPGvPxdY/s320/Lumi+%2528Large+Thumb%2529.jpg" width="262" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A decent image should look good both full size and as a thumbnail, knowing this and working at lots of different scales really helps with planning a picture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I kicked up the size of the chosen thumbnail, set the opacity right low and worked a layer above, again quite roughly at first, and then refining and refining till I was happy with what I had.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin-oFM83lpq0GXFfjxGZBtqmFhqVFmwjHRxYCZqMrWqlSoDPYp0U4Ge9Q4A6H0eWqBAIqtqVNWYWXzwQmo7i6WYYMnavwyb3aoRWysUxH8TYCfkwFVTWNYQ9uGc9zpC6g5ypIqqDoXVFE3/s1600/Lumi+%2528Rough+Lines%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin-oFM83lpq0GXFfjxGZBtqmFhqVFmwjHRxYCZqMrWqlSoDPYp0U4Ge9Q4A6H0eWqBAIqtqVNWYWXzwQmo7i6WYYMnavwyb3aoRWysUxH8TYCfkwFVTWNYQ9uGc9zpC6g5ypIqqDoXVFE3/s320/Lumi+%2528Rough+Lines%2529.jpg" width="262" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So these are the lines as it stands. (I don't have any captures of the stages in between these.. it was mostly a mass of messy scribble anyways, and we've already seen enough of those...)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I probably won't actually use lines in the final image, I'm still crushing heavily on the lineless style I've been using of late, but its still fun to draw it out properly..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Lumi is a different colour to the background since it pulls out depth across different layers (Background and Lumi are separate layers, and so was Lumi's head at one point... I wasn't sure of proportions so it allowed me to make some little adjustments, get it just right...), and it's easier to keep a handle on what you're doing this way.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I had a bit of trouble getting the background right, and to be honest its a bit wonky anyways, but it works quite well in the context of the image so I'm just going to roll with it...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Also she's in snail shell soooo...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now I'm a little trepidatious about how to proceed, I don't really do as many full page images as I should, so there's going to be a lot of experimentation and long drawn out stints. Either way, I will try and keep this up!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So... uh... tune in... next time?? I suppose?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Oh dear..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Ah, sorry for radio silence here, I've just recently moved to London for an UNEXPECTED JOB, and I'm still catching up on a lot of things. Today's post is a portrait of Paveline from William Gibbon's lovely and recently completed webcomic <a href="http://www.tenthousandmasks.org/para-ten/">Para-Ten</a>. I wanted to try something fun with the colours as I've never been the best at that side of things..</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you haven't yet read Para-Ten, I greatly recommend not only this, but also William's new story <a href="http://quietandslow.com/">Late Blooming</a>, which looks to be a sedate and introverted tale, which is exactly my sort of tale...</div><div style="text-align: center;">So that's good.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The main characters from a (relatively) short comic tentatively titled <i>Exit Onus</i> I'd like to start if I get the chance over the next few weeks. I am painfully aware that I need to get into the habit of producing short comics regularly, especially if I'm planning to eventually properly tackle Cities.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've been totally crushing on <a href="http://stervi.deviantart.com/gallery/">Stervi</a>, <a href="http://porkbun.deviantart.com/gallery/">Porkbun</a> and <a href="http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/">Gigi Digi</a>'s styles recently (not their real names... obviously...) and thought I'd try something similar. Turns out colouring can be something other than ridiculously stressful and time consuming... It can, in fact, be fun again!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In all seriousness, it was a nice change from the intensiveness of the Cities style, and I'm looking forward to actually doing something with this at some point...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I did this a while ago now as fanart for Alex Stodolnik's Read Bear Dead project (http://www.redbeardead.com/). There's kinda sparse few details on it, but I'm a fan of the characters and the style; his Miserable Armiya armour designs are particularly ssssuper..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He's a good-un..</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I'm trying to gather some of my older stuff together up here until I can get my website up and running. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Okay, lets get some new stuff up and out there..</div><div style="text-align: center;">Having finished my course, the main concern is to refine my work to a point more suitable for display at the upcoming exhibitions (Arts University College Bournemouth, 24th June and BRINK, The Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, London, 7th July [http://www.brinkshow.com/brink_info.html]).</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'll upload some page samples soon once I've got this part out the way I can go back and really start the comic proper..</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">These are a couple of character panels I will have displaying alongside the primer. I do want to do a third, but I doubt I will have time. So for now we just have Leo and Alenka. I'm still spending a lot of time trying to get the character design and style to stick. It's getting easier each time I draw Leo, as is the colouring.</div><div style="text-align: center;">I guess practice makes... uh... passable...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">In other news, I have been drawing robots.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Following on from the logo design, I felt there was more I could do to increase m profile at the auction. The most obvious idea was to produce some sort of business card or promotional item. (I was actually surprised when it came to it that there weren’t more people with the same idea as me..) The range I produced would need to be attractive visually, as well as remaining functional and practical in size and design. I have had concerns in the past that there is often wide divergence in the style of my work, so much so that images do not sit easily against each other. In order to remedy this I either had to find a way of displaying some element of my work that represented a wider style, produce multiple versions or begin to tighten my personal discipline or style.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Shortly before instigating this blog I had resolved to take more positive steps towards the professional side of my practice. In a recent interview for Vice magazine illustrator HARVEYJAMES discussed the origin of his illustrator name and the identity he had taken on with it. His inspiration came from the little known Hong Kong comic scene, the artists of which, through translation complications would often be listed in all capitals, one word and reverse order (i.e: Thunder Little would be listed as LITTLETHUNDER). Harvey explains, ‘I guess I started calling myself HARVEYJAMES in all caps to align myself with the spirit of that movement. The idea was that my work would be sort of authorially opaque and mysterious and you wouldn’t know whether HARVEYJAMES was a man, or a massive company, or a robot.’<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">This struck me being an interesting approach to the practice, a way of building around yourself and perhaps suggesting a sense of establishment that may not, in truth, be entirely there. I have since alternated between a couple of working names, unsure as to which I would prefer to use. At first I used Mumblefingers, a name taken from an anxious habit I have noticed. Anxiety has been an increasingly obvious part of how I function, feeding into the work I produce and the interests I take. I originally used this for my Livejournal blog, and up until switching to Blogpsot, had been working on publicity paraphernalia, logos etc.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">When producing work for illustration Christmas silent auction I was acutely aware that it would be the first time I had actually gone into something with the intent to sell my own work. While this was exciting, the predominant thought was the fact I have an embarrassingly terrible signature. To counteract this, I decided to create some sort of logo, which in turn would confirm and strengthen the professional persona I had been considering.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"><br />

I considered getting a small rubber stamp made up so I wouldn’t even have to draw it, and this is still something I’m considering. It is something similar to wax seals or personal insignia, and I would certainly be more comfortable in the knowledge that it’s a lot harder to mess up a stamp than a signature.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"> <!--StartFragment--> </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Much of my practice is based around minimising personal anxiety..<o:p></o:p></span></div><!--EndFragment--> <br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In an industry so based around personal role and identity, it can be difficult to really understand where you sit in terms of the overriding entity that is Illustration. Whether in terms of contemporary practice, international markets or social-historical placement, getting and maintaining an idea of the practice allows us a wealth of resources or inspirations with which we my further develop our own work.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">When in education this is simple enough, the first half of the projects you do tend to involve a lot of research; it becomes the go to practice when starting work for the first time. For their part, universities supply the resources to do this; libraries and learning centres, as well as professional contact and input should all be treated as invaluable to the development of your practice.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">However, upon leaving university, and indeed in your own time during those years, what measures can we take to be sure we have some awareness of a wider illustration scene?<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">To begin with, and perhaps most significantly, the Internet has become hugely influential to both our awareness of industry, and indeed how the society behind it is conducted. The rise of social networking and the ease of self-web publishing mean its easier than ever to establish some sort of point of contact, albeit one in a sea of millions of similar points. Acting to correlate the mass to some degree are community sites; web sites that are based around shared interests and interaction with other practitioners. Sites such as Deviantart.com and Conceptart.org are expanding steadily, integrating the social aspects of social media and basing them around shared interests.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">While the open nature of these sorts of sites does mean a lot of them will be clogged with high density, low quality output, by careful exploration and learning how to browse selectively, its easy to find artists and practitioners you would otherwise have never been aware of. Furthermore, oftentimes these practitioners are willing to discuss technique, produce tutorials and instigate community projects, creating something of a well of knowledge.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Similar in nature but more personal in approach, blogs offer higher levels of adaptability and ease of use, and are generally perceived as more professional than the aforementioned sites. This has seen blogging become standard practice for most contemporary illustrators, offering them a chance to show how they work, their personal background or approach, and generally offer more depth of information than a personal website would offer, so deeply tied to functionality and design as they are.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">It is worth considering the benefits of joining a collective or association. This may be large-scale organization like the Association of Illustrators (AOI) (which offer professional representation and reliable resources) or more small scale, group driven practice based bodies (which are as much about the working relationship between members as they are representation or establishment) Like the Paper Jukebox, recently established by a group of students of my course.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">The smaller scale collectives in particular offer a much more natural or receptive approach to work, a more obvious sense of relation or placement and a decent balance between self driven freelance practice and more open, team based projects, a balance of which it is always important to maintain.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: solid windowtext 1.5pt; border: none; padding: 0cm 0cm 1.0pt 0cm;"> <div class="MsoNormal" style="border: none; mso-border-bottom-alt: solid windowtext 1.5pt; mso-padding-alt: 0cm 0cm 1.0pt 0cm; padding: 0cm;"><br />
</div></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">In terms of my own practice while not as exhaustive as others, I try to keep up a constant awareness of certain areas of the industry, the indie and web comic scene in particular as of late. RSS feeds have made it simple to keep tabs on contemporary artists, and I am currently following the likes of Rene Engstrom, KC Green, Steve Purcell, Aaron Diaz and more.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Recently Aaron Diaz’s blog <i>Indistinguishable from Magic</i></span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;"> has been especially helpful, with regular discussions on the art of comic production, and has been really indicative of how blogs can be used to further both your own and your readers practice.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I signed up to Deviantart several years ago, and as well as acting as a space to show my work to the general public, it has provided a strong sense of motivation when working. Sites like this offer a destination for pieces, a type of closure or grounding for a finished piece of work. While I would never use it as a professional point of contact, it has helped me repeatedly with projects in the past, either in terms of the resources available (tutorials, textures) or even just as inspiration to get through a dry spell.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Last year saw my first foray into blogging. I will admit it is not something that comes naturally to me, but I am making efforts to update regularly, and it should take a larger role as I begin to work on my proposed comic project.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">My first blog was a Livejournal page, chosen mainly as it allowed me to subscribe to HARVEYJAMES’ blog. However, Livejournal seems to have a stigma amongst many people, and increasingly artists are using Wordpress or Blogspot instead. I set up my second blog MANYHEADEDMONSTER earlier in the year and resolved to take a more professional approach to the process. I have consciously made my posts more concise and image driven, though occasionally will discuss something that interests me, or I feel is worth exploring. While its primary function is, of course, to give some sense of context or background to the work I produce and show elsewhere, it has also been beneficial to my own work and especially to my sense of artist identity, especially in terms of the customization options that has allowed me to redesign it closer to my personal preference. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 10.0pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Honkfu have been of interest to me for a while. A visual arts based studio collective producing animations, comics and artwork, there is an obvious sense of style and identity, but not to the point that it overrides or defines the work produced. I think some sort of comic collective or studio group would be worth getting involved with in the future, and if I can find a group of people I am comfortable working with and who’s work would be conducive to my own, it could be a really positive thing for me.
